Sometimes, I really don't understand. Why would users compare 2 software that do totally different things & have no similarities? It has come to my attention lately that several Windows Mobile users have been comparing cleanRAM and ClearTemp, and concluding that cleanRAM is better. I'm not denying that cleanRAM is a neat piece of software here, but it really makes no sense in comparing the 2 software. I seriously think MANY users do not understand what the 2 software do, and even several experienced Windows Mobile users also fall into this category. I'm bewildered, really amused and pretty dissappointed.
Firstly, RAM has nothing to do with storage space since Windows Mobile 5.0, with the introduction of persistent memory. RAM is purely used for running programs. Storage space is taken from the ROM, extra internal storage, Storage Card, etc. As you can see, it's pretty similar as how a PC works. The most important idea is that RAM is not used to store files permanently. With that idea in mind, let me briefly describe the functionality of the 2 software in question.
cleanRAM is a tool for managing the level of free RAM on the device. What it does is to close certain apps running in the background that fall into a certain category. So, by closing unwanted apps in the background, it does free up some RAM on the device. Hence, this tool does not free up any storage space at all. Besides, the name of the software already hints at what it is meant to do.
ClearTemp, on the other hand, is a tool for clearing temporary files. This refers to unused/temporary files stored on the ROM, internal storage, Storage Card, etc. The software, in no way, helps to free up the RAM on the device.
In conclusion, cleanRAM is for freeing up RAM, not storage space. And ClearTemp is for freeing up storage space, not RAM. So, does it still make sense to compare which is the beter software now? It's like saying the apple is better than the orange. HUH?
